Artistic Director and Teacher of American Mime Core

Janet Carafa is an internationally respected mime artist, educator, yoga master and author dedicated to revitalizing and expanding the legacy of American Mime. As a longtime AMT performer, Janet trained extensively with Paul J. Curtis in New York and also studied with Marcel Marceau in Paris, giving her a unique mastery of both American and European traditions of mime.

Janet performed in various productions at AMT, showcasing her ability to merge expressive movement with dramatic storytelling. She is a unique artist who stands at the intersection of Curtis’s American tradition of character-driven movement and Marceau’s French tradition of poetic, illusion-based mime. This fusion has given her a rare balance of precision, expressiveness, and theatrical depth, making her one of the more distinctive contemporary mime artists.

Janet’s career has spanned international performances, teaching and movement arts, blending mime, breathwork, and expressive storytelling in a way that is both grounded in tradition and forward-thinking. In recent years, Janet has developed, trademarked and taught E-Motion Aerobics which she describes in her website as follows:

Artistic Director and Teacher of American Mime Core

Developed by innovative mime artist Janet Carafa, E-Motion Aerobics™ revolutionizes how we engage with our emotions. In a world often disconnected from our inner selves, this groundbreaking technique offers a journey into the heart of our “emotional body.”

Through a dynamic fusion of physical movement, facial expression, and vocalization, participants of all ages embark on a transformative experience. Discover the physical language of your emotions, explore their nuances, and participate in an “Emotional Symphony” that brings inner experiences to vibrant life.

For children, E-Motion Aerobics™ is a fun way to learn about and express their feelings. This helps develop emotional intelligence early, enhances self-awareness, and provides healthy outlets for expression. For adults, it’s an opportunity to reconnect with their emotional selves, enhance communication skills, and rediscover the power of non-verbal expression.

Whether you’re an actor seeking to expand your range, a professional looking to enhance emotional intelligence, or simply curious about the depths of human expression, E-Motion Aerobics™ offers an unparalleled opportunity to connect with your emotional self.

In addition, for many years, Janet’s New York company, the Entertainment Connection, produced events such as "The Concert for New York City," held on October 20, 2001, at Madison Square Garden. This benefit event was organized to honor the first responders and victims of the September 11 attacks. It featured performances by prominent artists such as Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Billy Joel, Elton John, and many others. Her company also produced numerous events for the New York-New Jersey Port Authority during the year the Super Bowl was held in New Jersey (2014). As Artistic Director, Janet is spearheading AMT’s all new School and Performing Company at AMT’s state of the art studio at 136 W 25th Street, NYC. With a deep commitment to the Curtis Method and the transformative power of movement, she is ensuring that American Mime not only endures but evolves for future generations.
