At American Mime Theatre, our workshops are defined by expertise, achievement, and experience. Our instructors bring industry leading experience, artistry, and knowledge to share their wisdom in hands-on, practical, technique-driven workshops for actors, movers, dancers, and performers of all mediums.
COMEDY AND CLOWNING WITH MARK STOLZENBERG
Saturdays 3:30-5:00PM
A hands-on learning experience delving into the art of physical comedy on a professional level. The course emphasizes classical and contemporary clown comedy routines, character development, slapstick and physical comedy, and explores the essence and spirit of clowning on a truly artistic level.
PHYSICAL STORYTELLING WITH BILL BOWERS
Sundays 2:00-4:00PM
Using Fundamentals of Etienne Decroux and Marcel Marceau, students will develop a foundation of Corporeal Mime, as well as proficiencies in illusory exercises. The program introduces multiple approaches to creating new physically based theater work and gives the students the opportunity to apply these new techniques in their own performance work.
MARK STOLZENBERG
BILL BOWERS
Mark Stolzenberg came in fifth in the world in an international circus competition. He was a clown with Ringling Bros. B & B Circus and has toured the world as a clown and circus artist. He was the first American clown to perform on stage in China. His film, "My Father the Clown" was honored at THE LINCOLN CENTER DANCE ON FILM SERIES. Mark was the artistic director and star performer in NYC's Northwind Circus and he toured with his stage shows, "Pierrot and Pirouette" and "Circus Follies"
Bill Bowers has been hailed by critics as “the great American mime” and has received top honors at theatre festivals throughout the world.
His Broadway credits include Zazu in The Lion King, and Leggett in The Scarlet Pimpernel, and he has appeared on the stages of Theatre for a New Audience, St. Anne’s Warehouse, EST, Radio City Music Hall, The Kennedy Center, Steppenwolf, LaMaMa, New York Fringe, and HERE.
